How to use SDconnect C4 + XentryDAS on Macbook Pro

I’m running Xentry/DAS 2018.05 (not OpenShell) on my MacBook Pro together with SDconnect C4 via LAN cable and VMware. Works without problems.
Need bridged networking in VMware. And adjust the network settings/IP addresses.

VMware:

Use VMware Fusion Professional and and allocate enough resources to the VM.

Mac hardware specification:

MacBook Pro, Core i7, 16GB RAM, 512 SSD, 15″ 1GbE, SuperDrive, Mid-2012

Virtualization:

That is the magic of virtualization. If you can locate a copy of Star Diagnosis that was intended for the IBM ThinkPad T30 running Windows NT 4.0 Workstation, you could easily install Windows NT 4.0 in a virtual machine and replicate that environment with near native performance. If you prefer to use a Windows XP-based version, that is easily done as well, up to and including Windows 10 1709 or Windows Server 2016. Almost any computer you purchase now will not have drivers available for Windows XP, so either an old PC such as a Dell D630/D830 will allow you to install Windows XP natively and make it work, but virualization takes the headache out of that. OS X us built on UNIX, so it is a very stable host OS and can run nearly any version of Windows was a guest with easy, stability and performance. The only think I would refrain from doing at this point in time, is if you are using OS X 10.13 High Sierra, do not use APFS just yet. It still is not as stable IMO as HFS+. You certainly don’t want to introduce system instability when programming a control module!

Battery:
The battery life is good when running Windows in a VM, as OS X has excellent power management. Allocate at 2 cores to the Windows VM, and if using an XP-based version, 2048GB of RAM should be sufficient.

In detail…How to setup Xentry/DAS on a Mac OS X

It is very straight forward. I elect to not use the automated installation of Windows, as it automatically configures the partition sizes, formats them, etc. Instead, do a custom installation and select your ISO. It will then determine the contents of the OS ISO and select your low-level hardware components automatically, such as CD-ROM bus, HDD bus, etc.

For the network cable, it defaults to NAT, so it shares the IP of OS X, but cannot receive unsolicited network traffic due to the nature of NAT. You can select Bridged, and it can have an IP on the same subnet as OS X.

I think I would prefer to install my installation from scratch, as the pre-built images that are distributed have an unknown product key, and also could contain malware or other unwanted applications.

If you are installing the XP version of DAS/Xentry, specify your virtual disk to be about 120GB, and when Windows XP asks you to specify your partition size, instead of pressing Enter and allowing it to consume the disk specify 20GB and quick format as NTFS. Create the remaining three partitions in Disk Management after XP completes installation.

Also, the first thing you will want to do is install VMware Tools after XP installs. If you want to install all available updates for Windows XP, and download WSUS Offiline version 9.2.3 and it will get your all of the available updates that were released when XP reached EOL.

I have used 12.2015, but if I still used Star Diagnoses, I would revert back a few months to avoid the hard-coded timebomb that was implemented at the end of 2015.

Result:

I have used this setup for many years for control module programming and SCN coding with no issues.

V2017.12 MB SD Connect C4/C5 BMW ICOM/ICOM A2 A3 HDD Setting

Customer’s problem:
We had purchased one set MB SD connect C5 with internal HDD from obd2tool, We really appreciate the faster shipment, all is well packed dhl week quickly received. But when we install the HDD to our computer, we have blue screen and doesn’t access to computer windows. We are wondering if we get the broken HDD……

Our Answers:

The BMW ICOM ICOM A2 A3 or MB STAR C4 C5 drives we assign to our customers are generally AHCI-mode hard drives with SATA port.

If your laptop BIOS is not set to the same hard drive mode (AHCI mode), if you connected to our hard drive to your computer, there will be a blue screen or can not find the hard drive.Please make sure your HDD is set to AHCI in the BIOS.

To check this you turn the laptop on and press F2, it will enter the BIOS. Now go to “ONBOARD DEVICES” or “SYSTEM CONFIGURATION” then go to “SATA OPERATION” press enter and make sure its set to AHCI not ATA or any other option.

Please have a minimum of 2GB of ram/memory in your laptop, a lot of people only have 512mb or 1gb, it is OK but the new system may run slow and its recommend to really have 4GB ram, but 2GB also can be enough.

MB Star Diagnosis Coding Out ABC on Mercedes R230 Cars

MB Star diagnosis DAS software can code out ABC, here is the example on code out Mercedes SL65.
NOTE : the instruction here only for R230s (not any W215, W216, W220, W221)

To do this, you need a MB Star diagnosis SD Connect C4 with Developer mode. Hook up SD Connect diagnostic system to your car and when it reads your car, select Control Units, pick Information and Communication and you will see ICM :

How to install SD Connect C4 WiFi on Windows 10

Have good success with MB SD Connect C4 windows 10.

I’m running Win10 on a Dell XPS15 9550 laptop with Intel AC 8260 internal wireless card installed.

After days of investigation and testing, the most important thing to understand is this. The drivers for your wireless card MUST support AdHoc functionality. The Benz diagnostic tools are the secret sauce that makes this possible. This can be verified at the DOS command prompt. The command is: netsh wlan show drivers
This command will show “Yes” or “No” on the line for “Hosted Network Support”.
If this line says “No”, AdHoc will not work properly.

Although I’m running Win10, Intel has drivers for the 8260 wireless card for Win8 which will enable proper AdHoc functionally.

The trick is to download the driver first, prior to removing your existing wireless driver. Download the driver ONLY, not any driver file with additional driver management apps included in the downloaded file.

Now you can go into Device Manager and remove your existing wireless card AND check the box that removes all software associated with it. My Win8 driver download file was a .exe file. I double clicked on it and the Win8 driver for my Intel 8260 card was installed. Went to Device Manager, right clicked on my 8260 wireless card and selected Properties. Clicked on Advanced and was able to see several AdHoc related entries. These AdHoc entries were not visible using the Win10 drivers.

AdHoc can now be verified at the DOS command prompt. The command is:
netsh wlan show drivers
This command will show “Yes” on the line for “Hosted Network Support”.
If this line says “No”, AdHoc will not work properly

With AdHoc functionality confirmed, additional DOS commands can now be used to enable Road24h wireless connectivity. The procedures for the additional steps required are well documented in OBD2TOOL or GOOGLE.

This is what worked for me. Depending on your computer skills, your results may vary.

Part 3: How to use wiTech MicroPOD II at OBD2TOOL clone for auto key programming

Step 1
Plug the MicroPOD II device into the OBD port and connect the USB cable from the device to your laptop. This wakes the BUS on the car.

Step 2
Manually enter the VIN of the vehicle. This gives you access to the module list.  Select the RFH (Radio Frequency Hub) module. This is the module where the key is registered.

Step 3
Next select “Miscellaneous Functions,” then “Program Ignition Fobix.”  At this point, you are prompted to enter the VIN again, followed by the four-digit PIN Code.

Step 4
After the four-digit pin is entered you are prompted to hit continue to “Program Ignition FOBIK.” Once you hit continue you must press the UNLOCK button on the FOBIX within 30 seconds (the FOBIX needs to be located near the center console during this procedure).

Step 5
Programming of the Ignition FOBIX is now successful. The new key key is accepted into the car, and the ignition will now turn on and start the car. At this point, you also have the option to program a second key.

Part 3: How to use  MicroPOD II clone for auto key programming

Step 1

Things to Remember:
You must be online to program the key.
The PIN Code is only good for one session, which lasts 72 hours. After 72 hours the pin code expires.
If you input the wrong code for three-time it locks the BCM and you cannot service the vehicle for 24 hours.
The key is one-time programmable. Once married to the vehicle it is locked to the car forever. The key can be erased from the car and put back into the same car, but can’t be switched to another car.
The placement of the key during initialization is important. It needs to be placed either behind the shifter or in the center console.
