How to use SDconnect C4 + XentryDAS on Macbook Pro

I’m running Xentry/DAS 2018.05 (not OpenShell) on my MacBook Pro together with SDconnect C4 via LAN cable and VMware. Works without problems.
Need bridged networking in VMware. And adjust the network settings/IP addresses.

VMware:

Use VMware Fusion Professional and and allocate enough resources to the VM.

Mac hardware specification:

MacBook Pro, Core i7, 16GB RAM, 512 SSD, 15″ 1GbE, SuperDrive, Mid-2012

Virtualization:

That is the magic of virtualization. If you can locate a copy of Star Diagnosis that was intended for the IBM ThinkPad T30 running Windows NT 4.0 Workstation, you could easily install Windows NT 4.0 in a virtual machine and replicate that environment with near native performance. If you prefer to use a Windows XP-based version, that is easily done as well, up to and including Windows 10 1709 or Windows Server 2016. Almost any computer you purchase now will not have drivers available for Windows XP, so either an old PC such as a Dell D630/D830 will allow you to install Windows XP natively and make it work, but virualization takes the headache out of that. OS X us built on UNIX, so it is a very stable host OS and can run nearly any version of Windows was a guest with easy, stability and performance. The only think I would refrain from doing at this point in time, is if you are using OS X 10.13 High Sierra, do not use APFS just yet. It still is not as stable IMO as HFS+. You certainly don’t want to introduce system instability when programming a control module!

Battery:
The battery life is good when running Windows in a VM, as OS X has excellent power management. Allocate at 2 cores to the Windows VM, and if using an XP-based version, 2048GB of RAM should be sufficient.

In detail…How to setup Xentry/DAS on a Mac OS X

It is very straight forward. I elect to not use the automated installation of Windows, as it automatically configures the partition sizes, formats them, etc. Instead, do a custom installation and select your ISO. It will then determine the contents of the OS ISO and select your low-level hardware components automatically, such as CD-ROM bus, HDD bus, etc.

For the network cable, it defaults to NAT, so it shares the IP of OS X, but cannot receive unsolicited network traffic due to the nature of NAT. You can select Bridged, and it can have an IP on the same subnet as OS X.

I think I would prefer to install my installation from scratch, as the pre-built images that are distributed have an unknown product key, and also could contain malware or other unwanted applications.

If you are installing the XP version of DAS/Xentry, specify your virtual disk to be about 120GB, and when Windows XP asks you to specify your partition size, instead of pressing Enter and allowing it to consume the disk specify 20GB and quick format as NTFS. Create the remaining three partitions in Disk Management after XP completes installation.

Also, the first thing you will want to do is install VMware Tools after XP installs. If you want to install all available updates for Windows XP, and download WSUS Offiline version 9.2.3 and it will get your all of the available updates that were released when XP reached EOL.

I have used 12.2015, but if I still used Star Diagnoses, I would revert back a few months to avoid the hard-coded timebomb that was implemented at the end of 2015.

Result:

I have used this setup for many years for control module programming and SCN coding with no issues.

How to change W222 speed meter and temperature from F to C

I have a Mercedes-Benz w222 manufactured in the USA. I want to convert the radio and speed meter and temperature from F to C.

It means change speed meter from mph to Km/h , and command (Head Unit) from US to ECE , it will via xentry?

I am new at this field. Any one know how to change it be xentry or vediamo ?
I have SD Connect C5 and  Dell D630 Star Diagnostic Tool With Vediamo V5.00.05.

ECU version is required so can get the steps. They vary from car to another.

According to your chassis Number, this is the ECU details:

Diagversion: IC222_E007_2_Muster

Steps Via Vediamo
1- go to CBF FILE (IC222)
2- Select ECU Variant (IC222_E007_2_Muster)
3- Tab Coding then Variant Coding
4 Coding window will open up

For the temperature C Scroll down o Anzeigeeinheit Temperatur (Unit_Temp) and Choose C.

All other Functions are in the same window

Steps Via Xentry
After reading the car go to the ECU Called IC- Instrument Cluster (A1)
Then choose Author data then click on alle_Codierungen. on the right side choose whatever coding you want to change. It should do if the Star Diagnose function is available.

Clone Xentry Connect C5- Good & Bad Things

I bought “Original Clone Xentry Connect C5” from China’s retail store Obd2tool.com in 2017/12.

Good thing:

1. Unlike bad products of C5 type C4 motherboard, texture is good
2. DoIP specification

Bad thing:

1. Because it is VM system + 32bit, the reaction is slow (SSD though …)
2. Vediamo can be used, but feeling like driving with DELL D 630 (unsuitable)
3. The DTS Monaco software is installed but the connection with the vehicle is NG (currently retail stores and manufacturer engineers are thinking about how to fix it)
4. Passwords are applied to each drive, making it hard to customize
5. Retail shops and manufacturer engineers lack knowledge (take time to support)

My thoughts

I think purchasing this product is still early.

There are too many trouble elements.

I’ll report it when the situation changes.

What I currently use (stable and comfortable)

New car: eCom (64 bit)
Normal: Clone SDConnect C4 (64 bit)
Old car: Clone C3

12.2017 XDOS Activation via Startkeycenter

This is the startkeycenter I used to activate 12.2017 Xdos with old keys. Move the folder to C:>PROGRAM FILES(x86)>MERCEDES BENZ. Launch startkeycenter from folder. Insert keys for xentry only. For DAS you should move the LIC.SLI file to C:PROGRAM FILES(x86)>MERCEDES BENZ>DAS>BIN which will activate it with no timeout. Blacklist is self explanatory which folders they should go in. I don’t claim any of this files…… I am just sharing which is what this Obd2tool.com is supposed to be about.

V2017.12 MB SD Connect C4/C5 BMW ICOM/ICOM A2 A3 HDD Setting

Customer’s problem:
We had purchased one set MB SD connect C5 with internal HDD from obd2tool, We really appreciate the faster shipment, all is well packed dhl week quickly received. But when we install the HDD to our computer, we have blue screen and doesn’t access to computer windows. We are wondering if we get the broken HDD……

Our Answers:

The BMW ICOM ICOM A2 A3 or MB STAR C4 C5 drives we assign to our customers are generally AHCI-mode hard drives with SATA port.

If your laptop BIOS is not set to the same hard drive mode (AHCI mode), if you connected to our hard drive to your computer, there will be a blue screen or can not find the hard drive.Please make sure your HDD is set to AHCI in the BIOS.

To check this you turn the laptop on and press F2, it will enter the BIOS. Now go to “ONBOARD DEVICES” or “SYSTEM CONFIGURATION” then go to “SATA OPERATION” press enter and make sure its set to AHCI not ATA or any other option.

Please have a minimum of 2GB of ram/memory in your laptop, a lot of people only have 512mb or 1gb, it is OK but the new system may run slow and its recommend to really have 4GB ram, but 2GB also can be enough.

How to use 2017.12 MB Star C5 hard disk and how to update Star C5

MB STAR C5 moveable hard disk is used for containing Xentry DAS, please do not use it as a computer system hard disk.

Here two tips to follow.

Option 1. you use C5 disk on your own computer. Tip: advice you not rework it or dismantle it and plug it to the computer to modify the data.

Option 2. you buy the extra computer together with MB Star C5, then you are advised to prepare one blank hard disk for system installation because the computer you bought doesn’t come with hard disk.

How to update DoIP Xentry Connect C5?

Usually you are required to send back the Benz diagnostic tool MB Star C5 hard disk for update unless the engineers can make out the updating software for download.

Attach one picture which shows the hard disk location in the C5 mux.

Tool: a clone SD Connect C4

Software: 2011/3 Xentry

Status: I’ve started up SDNC to see if the connection is okay, and it turns green when I connect the multiplexer via LAN, but when I try the wifi it stays red. It can also read out some data from the multiplexer so I am assuming the the multiplexer is working fine too

Error: If I connect it to a car, DAS keeps popping up the (1.1)-1.501.9500 error (as I understand that must be some kind of communication problem). The car’s wiring is fine as KTS 520 can communicate with it.

SDConnect toolkit says that my mux is available, but when I click on the button in the middle I get an error message, with an error code 750. That button is supposed to be for searching for multiplexers. This kind of gives me the impression that something isn’t quite working right :S
In the toolkit admin, it displays a serial number, says the mux is available. See in the attachments.

Solution:

It’s working!!! (At least it’s working via LAN, have not tried WLAN yet.)

I can’t believe it :O

Changed value in cal.ini to PART_W (to be exact, didn’t need to change it, it was PART_W, just left it that way :P).

As for the rest of the instructions, I haven’t been able to follow them exactly. I also got a vid with instructions and it’s a little bit different (I’ll post it here if anyone needs though). For example the LAN IP address is 172.29.127.112, but it seems to be working that way. Also I haven’t been able to configure the “road WLAN”, because it doesn’t matter what I enter into the “key” field, it keeps saying that the key cannot be divided by 2 and therefore it is not hexadecimal

Hope this isn’t going to hinder my chances of using WLAN…

But I’m going to find out in a few anyway.

EDIT: Also tried with LAN IP: 172.29.127.119, it doesn’t make a difference. MB SD Connect Compact 4 works with both IP-s.

Damn….I clicked on the “Delivery condition” button in the SDconnect toolkit, and now I cannot turn on the WLAN on SDconnect. I think it wrote something into the MUX’s software :S

The LAN connection still works though, so the MUX is not blocked yet luckily….
