How to solve MB STAR C3 DAS Fault (1.1)-1.501.9504

I have had a Mercedes diagnostic machine Benz star c3 for a while and i decided to try and make it work, but every time i try to communicate with the car i get  an error message saying :

Fault (1.1)-1.501.9504
Initialization of diagnosis multiplexer failed. Possible causes: The link between the diagnosis multiplexer and the diagnostic socket is interrupted. The link between the diagnosis multiplexer and the diagnostic unit is interrupted. The voltage supply at the diagnostic socket (circuit 30 and (or) circuit 31) is faulty.

DAS-Fault-1.1-1.501.9504

Error codes analysis:

error code 95xx: C3 mux settings is committed
error code 9551: means no C3 mux is connected
error code 9504: means Star C3 is connected and error in mux
error code 9500: means C3 is connected but error in COM settings to COM2
error code 99xx: means C4 mux settings is committed

So the error is 9504 means mux is read by software and mux is burned

But C3 mux is working on 3 main communication objects:
1- CanBus
2- K-line
3- L-line

your mux may still work if one circuit is burned like CanBus circuit burned but still you have other 2 working on K-line and L-line
Detailed possibilities of unsuccessful communication:

1 COM port setup improperly or broken COM serial on the laptop
2 New models that old STAR C3 cannot support
3 Something wrong with C3 diagnostic mux
4 Something wrong with cables

Thus, Obd2tool advice is to check your mux on other laptop, OR you may find your COM serial on your laptop is broken or do opposite check other mux on your laptop to find what is wrong. if all is ok, that is two possible occasions:

1 the model cannot not be supported by Star c3 and you should buy SDconnect C4
2 the software can not run ok and you can try new V2018.9 MB Star C3 Software

Star diagnostic Variant Coding to MB W220 S55 ESP

What is variant coding? And how to do on Mercedes S55 ESP?

Purpose: ESP module variant coding with Star diagnostic

Vehicle:2002 Mercedes w220 s55

Problem: I get a code under ESP module saying C1511-005 Coding Error Variant Coding is incorrect

Reply:

The variant coding in question is set by using factory data. That factory data is basically what chassis that engine control unit is bolted to. Things like weight of the car, yaw sensor and acceleration sensor parameters, moment arms, etc etc.

Once the engine control unit “learns” its variant coding, it is permanently and irrevocably locked down.

The ESP module reads the variant coding from the ECU. Once read, its ” soft” locked.

Your trouble code suggests that the ESP module has a variant coding that differs from that of the ECU.

Is this a recent occurrence? Did you perhaps have an third party ECU tune performed? Was the ESP module replaced ? Is the trouble code stored or current ?

Using STAR you can go into the ESP and check the currency of the error code and determine if it was 9 years ago or last Tuesday. If it was a long ago and a stored code, I would clear it and move on. If it is current, you can force a variant locking reset of the ESP module in STAR diagnostic and see if the code returns. If the trouble code returns, that would make it a current and ongoing error. If that turns out to be the case then perhaps the ESP module has gone “breasts skyward”.

1. to the right it should say CURRENT or STORED
hit F8
It should show you how many time the car has ben started after the code was detected. “0” means the fault is CURRENT, any number greater than 0 the fault should be STORED and past history. The ( obviously ) higher the number of start cycles the longer ago it was.

2. Double click C1511-005
Read the pre conditions
hit F3
read the sequence and follow it to (hopefully) force a variant coding re-read/write.

It would seem that the ESP reads the ECU on every start up. Having a bad TCU MAY be contributing to the ECU variant coding being off kilter. I would think there would be some P2000-P2564 series codes displayed for that though.

The most important note: When you get into adaptation it shows 000000 zeros on the vin number section and ask you to enter vin to match it. tried but no success.

How to solve:

Bear in mind I am using Xentry-Sim.

First stab in the dark, try F7 ( Perform Synchronization ) In other words.. ” go fetch me the VIN from the ECU ”

If that is successful ( something other than 0’s displayed) , then F5 ( confirmation of the VIN ).

If not successful, try entering VIN as it appears normally, then F5
If that doesn’t work try entering as internal FIN, 2201751Axxxxxx where xxxxxx is your chassis serial from Normal VIN. Then F5.

If none of that works…It maybe time for some of that professional help mentioned earlier up the thread.
Try that and see what happens

I have no training as a MB mech/tech and offer this as just a possible direction to proceed in. The ( very ) highly paid professionals at the Dollarship or the ( not so ) highly paid folks at a good independent shop should/would have the final say.

DTS Monaco is a program for softening. Mercedes-Benz is dealing with some company for developing some some software’s for the control units fixed on the cars. check the web side of this company and you will understand what they are doing. My advise to you if you want to play with this program you need to be expert with the vehicles software and programming other wise you will destroy it.

For many, DTS is the best software used on cars.
Coding works very good an easy, because for all coding-points it shows a “coding description”. With Vediamo you can not sort the list and have to make “right click” on any coding-point to read the description.
So, if you search for special things or “browse” through the functions in the ECU, Monaco is more comfortable.

Btw, vediamo unlocks units same as dts. Monaco can save codings in one click and upload them in one click too especially on MVCI smr-d units, which vediamo cant handle. Quite useful, but requires quite powerful system

How to install DTS Monaco on Windows 7?
When installing DTS Monaco to communicates and works with SDconnect4 all user installed SDconnect Toolkit version 2.1.3. And no one tried to force the work SDconnect Toolkit version 2.1.4.2, which is installed together with the installation of Setup_Addon_DAG. And I did it.

Checked only on the system without DAS/Xentry.
DTS Monaco 8.03.12.
Windows 7 x64.
Follow the next steps:
1. Install Monaco
2.Install Setup_Addon_DAG
3.Go to С:\ProgramData\I+ME ACTIA\Toolkit\
4. Open and edit toolkit.ini

Any good success with star mercedes DTS Monaco?

1) Mercedes W205 coding with DTS Monaco: Done!
2) I successfully connected to ZGW221 w/o car
DTS Monaco always sends a notification that it is impossible to contact the EIS221 to read the mileage, voltage, etc. (because w/o car)
3) I use both DTS Monaco & Vediamo, I can do tons of customizing settings on All MB cars; some of them are hidden by MB but very useful and cool.

For example ,
1. ALL vehicle which equip with dual multifunction camera, I could enable Traffic Sign Assist if your car does not have this function. Because MB hide it and they could sale the function for money in the future.
2. ALL vehicle which equip with parking radar sensor, I could set Alarm sound frequency related to the distance to the obstacle, instead of stock only make Alarm sound at the red zone( 30cm ). We call it synchronization.
3. ALL vehicle which equip with 360 camera, I could change the disable speed ( Distract screen engage), allow you can have more time or view around at higher speed.
4. Change temp. pressure gauge unit on cluster and Command Online ( C<->F , psi<->bar <->kpa, hp(SAE or DIN), N m <-> lb ft).
5. Disable Distract protection( allow VIDEO IN MOTION, spell input to Navi, Message while moving, and more ) Do not use them when you are driving!
6. Remove E-speed limiter, and also you can enable a menu called Winter Tire Speed Limiter on cluster, and you can choose how fast you dont want to pass, as low you can set 160km/h=100mph).
7. Adding some equipments when the car does not have them installed from factory, even transplant some from other model. ( But you need pay a lot to buy those parts compare to buy options installed by factory when they build the car. And for installation some of them are not easy as plug and play.).
8. Enable Blue Welcome home light for W beginning VIN W205 equip with Dynamic Head Light (IHL) without changing headlight assembly, 55SWF beginning…NVM, also vehicle has SA Code 608( Automatic High Beam Switch) could upgrade to Code 628 (Automatic High Beam Switch Plus) If you has dual multifunction camera.
9. Upgrade all control unit software without online daimler account, also you could downgrade.
10. Too many….
11. In general, all ppl talk about some setting or function they dont like and they want to change, I believe 99% of them can be achieved. 1% is still no solution for Apple Car Play and Android Auto for W205 before MY2018 without swapping Command Online Unit.

I would say, with those two software I could even build a car from every single pieces (IF PARTS FIT ). even the model does not exist( create a new car for MB ).
XENTRY can not do to much, compare those two software, its a baby toy.

How to Make Your Star C3 Work as MB SD Connect C4

Here introduce you two ways to make your Benz star c3 Pro (Quality Version) work as MB SD Connect C4.

1)
Convert MB Star C3 PartD (C3) to SD connect (C4), download Convert_C3_to_C4 tool.rar, and run it on your MB star c3 Diagnosis software. Then set local-connect IP as: 172.29.127.119/255.255.0.0 and the wireless IP:192.168.2.221/255.255.255.0.

2)
Replace the attached file (cal.sli) in local disk F:/ F:programmeXentrybinllist and make it Read Only after running MB Star C3 Xentry software which has connect with your SD connect C4 Multiplexer, then replace the download Cal sli. (If you are MB Star diagnostic technician, you also can modify the cal. sli by yourself.)

Afterwards you have to do following changes to convert the PartD MB Star C3 to SD Connect C4 .

1. Find out F:ProgrammeDASbin folder in Local Disk F:/ and locate Cal.ini file, follow below steps

PartD (C3) Mux:

This is an article that demonstrates how to start using MB SD Connect C4 diagnostic tool with any PC with external HDD by using Vmware virtual machine.

If you are using SD Connect C4 in a non virtual mode (i.e. with Dell D630) than launching of DAS, shown in the second half of the video, is basically the same.

If you have not yet purchased the Auto Scanner Tool and wandering of which to buy, than I would advise that you by SC Connect with Dell D630 or D620, as they are faster and easier to use.

Here is briefly how to set up thee workstastion.
– connect the exterrnal hard disk to your laptop;
– connect the LAN cable to your laotop and your MB Star LAN socket;
– connect your MB Star to the car’s OBDII socket, you’ll hear a beep – MB Star is ready to be used;
– star your PC…

After Windows XP on your laptop is up and running, you will have to setup the VMWare software.
This software should be on the external hard disk that came with your SD Connect.
You set it uo as normal Windows software.
The setup process is straight forward.

How to use SDconnect C4 + XentryDAS on Macbook Pro

I’m running Xentry/DAS 2018.05 (not OpenShell) on my MacBook Pro together with SDconnect C4 via LAN cable and VMware. Works without problems.
Need bridged networking in VMware. And adjust the network settings/IP addresses.

VMware:

Use VMware Fusion Professional and and allocate enough resources to the VM.

Mac hardware specification:

MacBook Pro, Core i7, 16GB RAM, 512 SSD, 15″ 1GbE, SuperDrive, Mid-2012

Virtualization:

That is the magic of virtualization. If you can locate a copy of Star Diagnosis that was intended for the IBM ThinkPad T30 running Windows NT 4.0 Workstation, you could easily install Windows NT 4.0 in a virtual machine and replicate that environment with near native performance. If you prefer to use a Windows XP-based version, that is easily done as well, up to and including Windows 10 1709 or Windows Server 2016. Almost any computer you purchase now will not have drivers available for Windows XP, so either an old PC such as a Dell D630/D830 will allow you to install Windows XP natively and make it work, but virualization takes the headache out of that. OS X us built on UNIX, so it is a very stable host OS and can run nearly any version of Windows was a guest with easy, stability and performance. The only think I would refrain from doing at this point in time, is if you are using OS X 10.13 High Sierra, do not use APFS just yet. It still is not as stable IMO as HFS+. You certainly don’t want to introduce system instability when programming a control module!

Battery:
The battery life is good when running Windows in a VM, as OS X has excellent power management. Allocate at 2 cores to the Windows VM, and if using an XP-based version, 2048GB of RAM should be sufficient.

In detail…How to setup Xentry/DAS on a Mac OS X

It is very straight forward. I elect to not use the automated installation of Windows, as it automatically configures the partition sizes, formats them, etc. Instead, do a custom installation and select your ISO. It will then determine the contents of the OS ISO and select your low-level hardware components automatically, such as CD-ROM bus, HDD bus, etc.

For the network cable, it defaults to NAT, so it shares the IP of OS X, but cannot receive unsolicited network traffic due to the nature of NAT. You can select Bridged, and it can have an IP on the same subnet as OS X.

I think I would prefer to install my installation from scratch, as the pre-built images that are distributed have an unknown product key, and also could contain malware or other unwanted applications.

If you are installing the XP version of DAS/Xentry, specify your virtual disk to be about 120GB, and when Windows XP asks you to specify your partition size, instead of pressing Enter and allowing it to consume the disk specify 20GB and quick format as NTFS. Create the remaining three partitions in Disk Management after XP completes installation.

Also, the first thing you will want to do is install VMware Tools after XP installs. If you want to install all available updates for Windows XP, and download WSUS Offiline version 9.2.3 and it will get your all of the available updates that were released when XP reached EOL.

I have used 12.2015, but if I still used Star Diagnoses, I would revert back a few months to avoid the hard-coded timebomb that was implemented at the end of 2015.
